Questions
Do I need an account to use Web Chat?
No. Pick a display name and you can create or join a room right away. Your identity is kept in a browser cookie, and names are unique across the app, so nobody else can post under your name while it is yours.
How long do chat rooms last?
Each room lasts 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days without messages, chosen when it is created. Every new message restarts the timer. When it runs out, the room and all its messages are deleted, and the owner can end the room at any time.
What is the difference between public, private and secured rooms?
Public rooms are listed on the Join screen, so anyone can drop in. Private rooms are not listed: only people with the code or invite link can join. Secured rooms are unlisted too and also need a password, which the owner can change at any time.
Are my messages stored?
Only while the room exists, and only the latest 200 messages per room. Deleting your own message wipes its text for everyone. When a room ends or expires, the room, its members and every message in it are permanently deleted.
How do I invite someone to a room?
Open the room menu and copy the invite link, share it from your phone, or show the QR code in Room info. The link never contains the password, so for a secured room share the password separately with the people you invite.
